What is a repair cafe?
Got a broken toaster? A wobbly bike wheel? A moth-eaten sweater? Don’t toss it—bring it to Traverse City Repair Café and give it a second life.
This free, donation-based community event pairs attendees with skilled volunteers to help repair household items—from small appliances and clothing to bicycles and furniture. You bring the item. We provide the tools. Our volunteers bring the know-how.

Why repair?
Repair Café Traverse City is part of a global movement that began in the Netherlands in 2009. It promotes a shift from our throwaway culture toward sustainability, collaboration, and hands-on skill sharing. It’s not just about fixing things—it’s about learning from each other, connecting with neighbors, and reviving traditional repair knowledge.
Who We Are
Repair Café Traverse City is a partnership between Green Door Folk School and the Traverse Area District Library. We believe in programming events that create a more sustainable and empowered community.
Want to help?
Are you the handy man of the neighborhood? Resident seamstress of your friend group? Bike mechanic of your block? Consider volunteering your skills.
We are seeking volunteers to help patrons fix broken household items—ranging from small appliances and clothing to bikes and furniture. We are especially looking for people who are handy with clothing/textiles, small electronic appliances, bicycles, and furniture or wooden objects.
Repair volunteer shifts are 9 am-2:30pm on Saturday, June 14.
Contribute previously loved tools at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave, front desk. The Repair Café Tool Drive will be held from May 14 to 28. Community members are encouraged to donate gently used but still functional tools, which will be used for this and future Repair Café events.
