Michigan’s Edible Mushrooms: Eating Wild-foraged for Your Health

In Michigan’s Edible Mushrooms: Eating wild-foraged for Your Health, students will learn about a myriad of edible mushrooms native to Michigan and the Great Lakes region. This class will cover the foundations of taxonomy, mushroom safety, fungi classifications, and foraging techniques. We will then cover the species of edible mushrooms, their seasons, and how to identify and forage them. Students will also learn how to properly prepare and cook wild mushrooms. Students will also learn the key rules-of-thumb on toxic and deadly fungi, and how to steer clear of them entirely while foraging the bounty of wild-fungi that are safe, edible, and medicinal! Everyone will walk away with the ability to identify, harvest, prepare, and cook delicious and health wild-foraged mushrooms and have a greater understanding on how to continue expanding their mushroom foraging techniques. Students will leave this class with resources to continue their self-studies!
