Intro to Leatherwork April Session

April 25 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
$120.00 – $180.00

In this class, you’ll learn the foundational skills needed to approach the craft of hand sewn leatherwork. You’ll begin by creating a pattern, selecting your leather, and stitching a small piece together before moving onto a second small project. With a balance of demonstration, hands on practice, and instructor guidance, you’ll leave this class with the tools and knowledge to continue to explore sewing with leather!

Meet Your Instructor:

Ted Gilmer

Ted Gilmer has spent a lifetime with tools in his hands. Whenever he’s had the chance to find materials, he’s taught himself how to turn them into something useful and well crafted. Merging his experience with wood and leather, he created the Leelenau Trading Company, a local leather goods business based in Empire. His balances practicality, function, and aesthetics, carefully selecting pieces and designing patterns. He is eager to translate his love for making into teaching, and to share the benefits of handwork with students.
