Field Dance FAQs
What is contra dancing?
Contra is a traditional folk partner dance, similar to square dancing in many ways (and we usually throw in a square dance or two!)
Are beginners welcome?
All levels of dance experience are welcome. If you can walk to a beat, you can contra dance. We teach the basics to get you started, and after that, you can make it as simple or as intricate as you like! Join us at 5:30 PM for a beginner lesson covering the basic steps.
What should I bring?
Wear shoes and clothes suitable for frolicking in the field. A cash or Venmo donation of $10-$20 to cover the musicians’ and venue costs is suggested but not required. Come with your friends, family, or a big group—the more the merrier.
What if it rains?
We will update this webpage with a rainout location or information about rescheduling. If you’d like to be notified about any event changes directly, RSVP below.
