From Raw Wool Fleece to Handspun Yarn
April 4 - April 6
$435.00In this class, we will start with raw wool fleece (sheared off the sheep). Then we will wash (or “scour”) some of that wool. Next, we will prepare that clean fleece for spinning with hand tools (flick card, hand cards, hand combs). And we will spin and ply some of that prepared fiber into yarn using a drop spindle. This class is intended for those with no previous experience in fiber preparation or spinning. However, those participants with some experience will find tips and techniques that will improve their fiber skills. Along the way, we will explore variations in fiber characteristics of the many sheep breeds and wools that are available for handspinners. The instructor will supply wool for washing, preparing, and spinning; samples for examination; notebook with handouts, hand tools for fiber preparation, and drop spindles for spinning.
