Folded Bark Baskets

June 13 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
$112.00 – $168.00

Tree bark is a powerful material in basketry, and can be harvested from a wide range of trees in the world around us. In this workshop, we will learn to harvest and work with tree bark from different invasive/displaced plant species in a way that promotes the health and resiliency of our local ecosystem. We’ll learn different techniques to process and fold the bark to make beautiful baskets.

Meet Your Instructor:

Michael Schofield

Michael Marie is a Michigan-based fiber and funerary artisan and handcrafts woven caskets, burial trays, urns, and plant dyed shrouds for use as more sustainable end-of-life options. She weaves with wild tended and farm-grown heirloom willows in addition to many other plants, including those commonly considered invasive species. She believes reestablishing relationships with these overabundant and controversial plant species can improve ecosystem health, and deepen our relationship with the living world, and make a lot of crafts more easily accessible.
